Privacy and licences

The app

• No accounts, no sign-up. It never asks for your name, email or phone.
• Your logbook lives on your phone. The list of your flights is not sent to any server. It leaves only if you tap share.
• What does reach our server, and why. To get the weather, the app sends your position, or the two airports of your flight and the departure time. Our server rounds the position to two decimals — a bit over a kilometre — before passing it to the forecast service, so that third party gets the area, not your seat. Our server log, like any website's, records the request as it arrived; it is not tied to any account, because there are no accounts.
• No third-party ads or analytics.

This site

• No cookies or trackers, and nothing is loaded from third parties: no fonts, no statistics, no social buttons.
• Like any web server, the one serving these pages logs the IP address and the page requested. It is used to spot failures and abuse, it is not matched with anything and it is not shared.
• If you look up a flight number, we store it — without knowing who looked it up — to follow that flight and show its track. What we store about flights is aircraft data (registration, callsign, position), not passenger data.
• How we count visits. We record which page was seen, when, which site the link came from and whether it was a person or a robot. Instead of the IP we keep a code encrypted with a key that changes every day: it lets us count different people in a day and does not allow getting back to the IP or following anyone from one day to the next. It is deleted after 90 days.
• The sun calculation on each route runs in your browser: the date and time you enter never leave your device.
• Photos and fonts are served from our own server, not from Wikimedia or Google: your browser talks to no one else.
• Affiliate links. Some pages recommend things for your trip (mobile data, accommodation, insurance, lounges). They are plain links, labelled as affiliate links: if you buy, the seller pays us a commission and it costs you nothing extra. Our pages carry none of their code; what happens after the click is governed by that site's privacy policy.

Not a flight instrument

Modo Avión is for looking out of the window and understanding what you see. Routes are theoretical, the shortest path on the sphere, and the real aircraft deviates. No aeronautical decision should be made with it.
